Russian-speaking families in Japan: An analysis of some features of everyday communication between children and parents

Abstract

This article aims to clarify the issues related to everyday family communication habits of parents with their children in Russian-speaking families living in Japan. The study is based on questionnaire data conducted on Russian-speaking families in Japan. From this data, it was possible to find out how communication with children in the family circle occurs, which language the children choose to communicate with a Russian-speaking parent, the choice of the parents’ language, and the topics of communication with children in the morning and evening. As well as characters of body and verbal interaction of parents with children. The study also shows the relationship between language and children’s daily life action, and the psychological development of children. The results show that the Russian language is in demand and accepted by the children when the Russian language provides closer mental and physical interaction with parents since the children in special values close and full-fledged contact with parents.
